We are asking interested parents to please meet for a brief informational meeting at the top of the stairs which lead to the Westview stadium, on Saturday May 19th, at 11:00 AM. At that time we will discuss the format of the future soccer sessions, provide registration/waiver forms, and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you there!

The TOPSoccer skills evaluation will run from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon Saturday May 26th at the Westview High School stadium, 13500 Camino del Sur, San Diego CA 92129-4265. The skills evaluation will allow us to better serve the needs of the athletes, and to ensure future fun sessions!

Her contributions to the local soccer community were recognized at this event. SDSC nominated her for her endless hours of volunteering for the club. She has made a huge impact across SDSC’s operations, whether driving a merger, negatiating uniforms, or advocating for our club and families at all levels of local government.

Brian Quinn, longtime Coach and current Director of Boys Younger soccer, had this to say about Sally’s contributions to the club and community. "Sally has been the glue that held together the merger between Rancho Bernardo Renegades and Pegasus FC in 2006, then later in 2010 for the merger between PQYSA, RBYSA, PQ Premier, and FC San Diego.  She was instrumental in bringing a ’one stop for all’ place for soccer to the North County corridor and beyond.  Her leadership through participation on the board and on numerous local committees has fostered the growth of the sport as well as opened up new opportunities for the players in this community.  No task has been too big or small - she has drafted budgets, coordinated schedules, lined fields, ran tryouts, written grant proposals, and provided hands-on assistance at our tournaments and other events. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work with Sally."

Voting is also underway through February 17. Eleven players are up for selection on the Veteran ballot, which is voted on only by current Hall of Famers after the list has been narrowed down by a screening committee.  Eligibility for the Veteran ballot is the same as the Player ballot except that a player must be retired for more than 10 years. They are also tied for first in goals per game average for their WCDA age group. Their awesome play continued back home as they won the 2012 Nomad’s Coaches Showcase by defeating Surf White 1-0. They allowed only 4 goals through 7 games, with 4 clean sheets. Congratulations boys!

Coaches, Managers and  Volunteers were also recognized for their contributions.  The event was attended by over 1000 players and family members and was held at the Jenny Craig Pavilion at the University of San Diego. "The award banquet was a fantastic event and it wrapped up our fantastic season on and off the field. I’m very proud to be involved with an amazing group of people, from my fellow directors, coaches, managers and all the board members that have helped make this a very successful merger and SDSC a class act." said Raffi Ruotolo, Director of Older Girls Soccer.

]]> http://www.sandiegosoccerclub.org/home/592922.html *John Napier Featured in Local 92127 Newsletter * 12/12/2011 05:35 PM http://www.sandiegosoccerclub.org/home/585379.html From Ray and Theresa Shay - Our three boys, Troy, Raymond, and Ryan really enjoy soccer. As much time as we are around soccer coaches and competitive clubs, Theresa and I were still surprised when Raymond’s U-11 San Diego Soccer Club Coach, John Napier announced to the team, "I will be providing player evaluations to the kids and their parents today". That part was not surprising. What surprised us is what he said next, "It will take about twenty or thirty minutes per child". Thirty minutes per child?   Most coaches hand out an evaluation and say, "See me if you have any questions". I started to calculate in my mind before quickly transitioning to the calculator on my Iphone. 30 minutes per child and there are fifteen kids on our team and John has a minimum of 2 teams. That equals to about 15 hours of sitting down with kids and their parents.

I’m not the brightest, but even I know that SD Soccer Club is not paying Coach John Napier anymore for his additional time. John must really love coaching, love kids, and/or loves soccer. I pick answer (D) ... All the above. 

John is not a first year coach. He has been doing this for a very long time and has played at the highest levels of English Premier League Soccer, (Click her for some history of John Napier).
We sat down with Raymond as John prepared to speak.  We asked to take the above photograph and John agreed.  In the counselling session John went over every aspect our son’s play including leadership and attitude.  Un-rushed, he paused several times when he would ask Raymond a question.  It was not a, "courtesy pause". It was a ten second time period or more of silence as he waited patiently for a response from our son.  In this world of texting and instant communication sometimes it takes an 11 year old, or anyone else, a few moments to develop an answer. 
It was then I realized the gift that John was giving our family and our team.  As we sat near, "the pitch" as our friends across the pond describe a soccer field, with kids running around and the sound of soccer acting as a backdrop, John was completely focused on our son.  His words as usual, were caring, patient, professional, and wrapped beautifully in the most precious commodity of all... TIME.  There was no bow on his present but his gift had a significant impact on all of the parents as well as the kids.  One parent commented admiringly, "John said things about our son only us as parents should know.  It was amazing".    
Most people when they become successful and established they have little time for ten year old children trying to find their way. On behalf of all the many kids you coach,have coached, your gift of time and caring is deeply appreciated.  You are developing some pretty darn good soccer players, but even more importantly, you are building young men and women who will be better prepared to face the challenges of life.

What’s SDSC most excited about? Our very own Pete Stogsdill, Director of Coaching (younger girls) and Coach Kurt Trecker (BU17) recently received honors as Coaches of the Year for 2010 -2011, Pete for High School Girls and Kurt for High School Boys. The selection process was determined by the San Diego CIF soccer advisory committee.
Pete is quite humble about receiving such a tribute, “I have been fortunate enough to coach at a school where there always seems to be a lot of good soccer players.  I am honored to have been voted on by my peers as the coach of the year but know that a large part of that is because I get the opportunity to work with a lot of talented players.  I have a great coaching staff and we all work very hard to make playing soccer at the high school something to look forward to and to try and help our players make memories that will last a lifetime.  We try and keep it light and fun and I think that is part of the reason why our program has been successful.”

]]> http://www.sandiegosoccerclub.org/home/555604.html GU17 - Navy Copa Del Mar Champions 08/24/2011 12:23 AM http://www.sandiegosoccerclub.org/home/555610.html Congratulations to the Copa Del Mar Champions, the SDSC Navy team coached by Gary Collier.  They scored 9 goals and allowed none! They beat Legends 2-0, Del Mar Sharks 1-0, and went into semis and scored 3 over NSD Force 0, a Canadian team. Finals was a bitter-sweet game, both SDSC GU17 teams (Navy & Orange) made it out of bracket play by wining their semi games to play each other in the championship, as it's always tough playing your own club. Navy won with a 3-0 score in the final.
